Creative Starbucks Stores At Universities
Added On: Sep 3, 2015
College is back in session and what does every college student need when they are back on campus? Starbucks. For the students that live in the college town of Washington, D.C., there are three Starbucks stores in particular that draw inspiration from their surroundings. George Mason University is the first location where they had to be very creative to make it work. Because it was a small location, they put all of the seating in the center of the room with a huge centerpiece hanging from the ceiling. But, they went above and beyond and created a feature of folded origami reclaimed textbooks. This piece has 34 books flying around, and the room continued to be creative with chalkboard walls and iron pipe fixtures. Every detail in this store optimized the proud foundational majors that the school has always had. The next location is at American University, where the design team had more room than at the previous school. They started out with a huge banquette style seating area with a...

How to Become a Barista

Becoming a barista starts with one not so simple step, experience. According to Barista Mike Jones, you end up doing a lot of self-teaching when learning about coffee. You browse the web, read books, and try to get an understanding of the different aspects of coffee. However, most cafes are now offering training courses to get you up to speed. Starbucks baristas are trained on the job, behind the counter, and managers supervise them. You’re shown how to make a drink, and then you are expected to independently produce the same drink. It helps if you have good concentration and pick up things easily the first time. The baristas are expected to know the specifics of the different coffees they sell. Sampling the various types of coffee is crucial to achieving this. When asked by a customer about a certain coffee they must be able to adequately describe the flavor. It’ also important to recognize recipe similarities in order to speed up the time it takes you to make the drinks....
The Health Benefits of Coffee

Coffee isn’t just good for keeping you awake. It’s also been linked to making you smarter. The active ingredient in coffee is caffeine. Caffeine’s primary function is blocking the inhibitory neurotransmitter Adenosine. By blocking Adenosine, caffeine increases the neuronal firing in the brain. Caffeine in turn has been linked to an improved mood, memory, and cognitive function. If you check out any commercial fat burning supplements you’ll see caffeine. Because of caffeine’s stimulant effect on the central nervous system it increases the metabolic rate, and also increases the oxidation of fatty acids. Coffee may also be really good for your liver. In prospective studies coffee drinkers on average were as much as 80% less likely to develop liver problems such as cirrhosis. The studies showed that people who drank 4 or more cups of coffee a day had the highest strongest effect. Coffee is also packed with a ton of vitamins! A cup of coffee contains vitamin B2, B3, B5, and...
Butter & Coffee?
Added On: Jul 13, 2015
There is a new craze going around with people adding an unexpected ingredient into their coffee, butter. Instead of usual cream and sugar, people are adding butter. It sounds quite interesting, but it is not bad for you and there is one kind that is best for this concoction, grass-fed butter. Most cows are corn or soy fed, which makes their milk very fatty. Grass-fed cows produce the best milk, and in turn butter. This butter has the right fats that regulate cholesterol and a good source of vitamin K. It provides healthy fats for your brain and body and drinking it every morning puts your body in the routine to burn fat all day. The “bulletproof” drink will give you energy as well as increase cognitive function that kicks in for about six hours. Two tablespoons of butter in your coffee can even replace a breakfast meal altogether, providing your body with essential fats and calories for higher performance.

Tips To Save At Starbucks
Added On: Jun 29, 2015
Everyone loves Starbucks, but it’s not always easy spending $5 for one drink. So, here are some helpful tips on saving. The first is to order a short-size coffee in a tall cup. The barista will likely fill it up three-quarters of the way and after adding cream and sugar you will have a tall drink for the price of a short one. The next tip is to split a venti with your friends. If you order a Venti Frappuccino, along with a couple tall cups, you will save by splitting it with yourself and a friend. The third tip is to order a chai tea to make your own latte. You can order a chai tea and ask for some steamed milk separately. You can get 1.5 inches of steamed milk for free, and after combining everything you now have a chai tea latte. You can save at least a dollar. Another trick that I learned is when you order an iced tea, more than half of it is water added to the premade iced tea. When I order my favorite iced-green tea I ask for no H2O/water. You can also save online using...
